God Said It
is that enough?

We say we believe God's Word - but do our worry, our reactions, and our words actually agree with what He has said? One session · 45-60 minutes · groups of 4-12.

Hebrews 10:23 · Hold Fast Without Wavering

The Big Idea

Our confidence isn't in our ability to hold on - it's in the One we are holding on to. When God has spoken, that is meant to be enough for us.

Welcome & Icebreaker

Open your time together with one or both of these questions to get people talking before you dive into Scripture.

  1. Think of a time someone made you a promise and actually kept it, no matter what it cost them. What did that do for your trust in them?

  2. On a scale of 1-10, how easily do you say "I believe God's Word" out loud versus actually resting in it when life gets hard? Why do you think there's a gap?

Leader tip: Don't rush this section. The goal is to get people honest and relaxed before moving into deeper reflection. Silence after a question is okay - let people think.

Recap the Message

This week's message asked: if God's Word is enough, why do we still worry after He has spoken? Why do we still fear after He said "Fear not"? Why do our words sometimes contradict the very promises we claim to believe? Our confidence was never supposed to rest in our ability to hold on - it rests in God's faithfulness. From there, three truths were unpacked: His Word settles the matter, faith holds on even when circumstances say otherwise, and our words should agree with God's Word.

  1. What part of the message stuck with you the most this week, and why?

Truth One: His Word Settles the Matter

Numbers 23:19 & Isaiah 55:11

"God is not a man, that he should lie... hath he said, and shall he not do it?" - "So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth; it shall not return unto me void."

  1. The message said God's Word carries the weight of His character - trustworthiness. What's the difference between trusting a promise and trusting the person who made it?

  2. Can someone share a promise of God that you've seen "settle the matter" in your own life, even before the circumstances changed?

  3. Is there an area right now where you're still trying to "make something happen" in your own strength instead of resting in God's faithfulness to do it?

Truth Two: Faith Holds On Regardless

Romans 3:4 & Proverbs 3:5-6

"...let God be true, but every man a liar." - "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding."

  1. The message distinguished between "facts" (what we see) and "truth" (what God has said). Why is that distinction important when we're going through something hard?

  2. Describe a season when your circumstances seemed to completely contradict what God had promised. How did you respond - and looking back, what would you do differently?

  3. What is one circumstance in your life right now where you need to let God's Word have the final say instead of what you're currently seeing?

Leader tip: Some group members may be in the middle of a real crisis right now. Make space for that honestly, but gently steer the group back to what God's Word says rather than only processing the problem.

Truth Three: Our Words Should Agree With God's Word

James 3:9-10 & Proverbs 18:21

"With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings... this should not be." - "Death and life are in the power of the tongue."

  1. The message used the story of the twelve spies (Numbers 13-14) - same facts, different faith, different words. Why do you think ten spies spoke fear while only two spoke faith, even though they saw the exact same giants?

  2. Have you ever caught yourself saying something that contradicted what you say you believe about God? What triggered it?

  3. What would it look like this week to consciously bring your words into agreement with God's Word in a specific situation?

This Week

Before you close, help each person land on one concrete step. Go around the group (or pair up) and have each person answer:

  1. What is one promise of God I need to hold fast to this week, regardless of what my circumstances are saying?

  2. What is one sentence I've been speaking that I need to stop saying - and what will I say instead?

Encourage the group to write their answer down somewhere they'll see it daily - a note on their phone, a sticky note on the mirror, etc.

Let's Pray

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You that Your Word never changes and never fails. Forgive us for the times our words and our worry have not matched what we say we believe. Teach us to hold fast - not because we are strong, but because You are faithful. Bring our hearts, our minds, and our mouths into agreement with You this week. In Jesus' name, Amen.
