This message draws from the story of Jonah to explore what happens when we jump ahead of God after receiving a promise from Him - the consequences of running ahead, the purpose of the "whale belly" season, and the beauty of what God does when we return to Him in honesty and surrender.

Jumping Ahead of God

"God will tell me something, show me something, and it look mighty, mighty good. And I'm like, yeah, God, I want that. I want all of it. And what I will begin to do is start to plan everything and put things in place." It's easy to jump ahead of God even when the promise genuinely came from Him - we take a real word from the Lord and start building it in our own strength, using our own timeline. Faith without works is dead, but works without faith is just us running ahead.

A reset is not a punishment. It's God returning us to the original state of the promise He gave us, so He can fulfill it His way, not ours. Jumping ahead of God with His promise, no matter how well-intentioned, produces a mess that only God can clean up.

The Belly of the Whale

"For many of us right now, we are in the belly of a whale. We have been swallowed up by the mess we created." The belly of the whale season is not a sign that God has abandoned you. It's often where God finally has your full attention. The enemy uses our mistakes to produce embarrassment, and embarrassment produces pride - and pride is what keeps us from asking for help or coming clean before God.

A reset is God returning you to the promise, so He can fulfill it His way.

Honesty and Thanksgiving in the Mess

"God already knows you scared. He know you messed up. He know what you doing. But you ain't telling them people you doing. He see you and ain't nobody else looking. He already knows, so why not come and be honest with Him?" Honesty with God is the starting point of restoration. He already knows where you are - He's waiting for you to tell Him.

Jonah prayed from inside the whale. He was honest about being scared. He thanked God for His mercy. He promised to obey. Thanksgiving and obedience in the middle of a mess aren't signs of denial - they're acts of faith that position you for what God has next. Instead of praying "God, get me out," try praying "God, keep me while I am in." That shift changes your whole posture toward a difficult season.

The Reset and What Comes After

"When you get back to the starting line, you wait for the Lord and your strength will be renewed. You stay there and you allow Him to remind you of the promise that was made to you." Isaiah 40:31 promises renewed strength for those who wait on the Lord. Psalm 27:14 calls us to be strong, take courage, and wait for the Lord. Waiting on God after returning to the starting line is not passive - it's an act of strength and courage that renews you for what's ahead.

After Jonah was released from the whale, God came to him a second time with the same assignment. God doesn't waste a reset. He brings you back to what He originally called you to, once you've returned to the starting line and let Him renew your strength.

Your way has failed you up until this point, but God's way will prosper you in every area of your life.
