Qualified by God
Study Topic
Qualified
just let it go
God does not wait for us to be ready or perfect before calling us. A study on discovering that He qualifies the called by supplying grace, strength, and the tools for the task.
Exodus 4:10-12 · God Qualifies the CalledThe Big Idea
God qualifies the called. He does not call the qualified. Tests are not meant to break you - they are meant to build a testimony that helps someone else.
Welcome
Opening Question
Go around the group before diving into deeper discussion.
-
Without going into deep detail, share one word that describes a season of life you have walked through that felt overwhelming or uncertain.
Section 1
God Qualifies the Called
Exodus 4:10-12 · Judges 6-10 · 1 Samuel 16:11-13
Moses told God he was not an eloquent speaker, and God equipped him anyway. Gideon considered himself the weakest, yet God called him a mighty warrior. David was overlooked by his own family, but chosen by God to be king.
-
Which of these three examples - Moses, Gideon, or David - resonates most with where you are in life right now, and why?
-
The speaker said she felt like "a joke" and "inadequate" after speaking from the pulpit the previous year, yet God brought her back. Have you ever felt disqualified from something God was actually calling you toward? What did that feel like?
-
What does it mean to you personally that God qualifies people based on His grace rather than human perfection?
Section 2
Praise in the Middle of the Pain
The speaker described a turning point where, instead of presenting God with her list of problems, she found herself pouring out gratitude - thanking God for her breath, her limbs, her sobriety, her grandchild, her right mind. It was in that moment of praise that she began to experience relief.
-
Why do you think shifting from petition to praise made such a difference in her experience? Have you ever had a similar moment?
-
She said, "I got focused on one thing, and God had another plan for me, which was to praise Him in spite of what my body was telling me." What does it look like practically to praise God when your circumstances are telling you a completely different story?
-
Is there something in your life right now that you have been bringing to God as a problem that might need to be brought to Him first as an opportunity for praise?
Section 3
The Teacher Is Quiet During the Test
"Remember that the teacher is always quiet during the test." The speaker described seasons of prayer, fasting, and altar visits where she received no answer, and how she had to learn that God's silence was not abandonment - it was cultivation.
-
Have you ever experienced a season where God felt silent? Looking back, what do you think He may have been doing in you during that time?
-
She said God was teaching her patience, humility, and how to trust and hear His voice. What has a difficult season taught you that you could not have learned any other way?
-
How do you personally distinguish between God being silent and God saying "not yet"?
Section 4
Declaring the Word Over Your Life
Habakkuk 2:3 · Job 22:28 · Hebrews 11:1
The speaker spoke declarations rooted in Scripture - that she is blessed, that she is the head and not the tail, that no weapon formed against her shall prosper.
-
Do you have a habit of speaking Scripture over your circumstances? If so, share one verse that has been an anchor for you. If not, what has held you back?
-
The speaker said, "You have to get desperate for God." What does that kind of desperation look like in a healthy, faith-driven way?
-
As a group, take a few minutes to identify one shared challenge - fear, financial pressure, health, relationships - and look up a scripture together that speaks to it.
Section 5
The Test Is for Someone Else's Testimony
"The test is not for you. The test is always testimony for someone else."
-
Has someone else's testimony ever directly encouraged you or helped you hold on? Share that story if you are comfortable.
-
Is there a part of your own story - something you have walked through - that you have been hesitant to share but that might be exactly what someone else needs to hear?
-
What would it look like for your group to create more space for testimony and transparency with one another?
Section 6
Loving and Blessing Your Enemies
Matthew 5:44 · Luke 6:27-28 · Romans 12:14 · Luke 23:34
Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, and leave room for God to act.
-
This is one of the hardest commands in Scripture. What makes it so difficult, and what makes it necessary?
-
The speaker said, "God will vindicate you." How does trusting God's vindication make it easier to release the need for personal revenge or retaliation?
-
Is there a relationship or situation in your life right now where you are being called to bless rather than curse? What would that look like this week?
Application
This Week
Choose one or more of the following to practice before your group meets again.
-
Praise first - Before you bring your biggest concern to God in prayer this week, spend the first five minutes of your prayer time doing nothing but thanking Him. Notice what happens to your perspective.
-
Declare the Word - Write down one scripture that speaks directly to your current situation. Place it somewhere visible - your mirror, your phone wallpaper, your car dashboard - and speak it aloud every day this week.
-
Share your testimony - Identify one person in your life who is going through something you have already walked through. Reach out to them this week with an encouraging word or your story.
-
Bless an enemy - Think of one person who has wronged you or with whom you are in conflict. Pray for them by name every day this week. Do not pray for God to fix them. Pray for God to bless them.
-
Stay ready - "Don't get ready. Stay ready." Commit to a daily habit this week - Scripture reading, prayer, worship music - that keeps your spirit fed and your armor on.
Closing
Closing Reflection & Prayer
The speaker closed her message with an invitation to surrender - to lay down control, addiction, fear, distrust, and anything else standing between you and God. Give everyone a moment of silence to identify one thing they need to lay down before closing in prayer.
Closing Prayer Points
Thank God for the testimonies He is building in each person's life, even now. Ask for the courage to praise Him in the middle of pain. Ask for the faith to declare His Word over hard circumstances. Ask for the grace to love and bless those who have caused harm. Ask God to bring each person's test to its full testimony in due season.
